Dental Crowns and Bridges

Modern Care for Broken and Missing Teeth

Although our teeth are durable and designed to last a lifetime, they are not indestructible. Sometimes a tooth can become broken or weakened by a large filling or root canal. Sometimes teeth need to be extracted, and a replacement option is needed. When you need tooth restoration, Dr Lincoln Huang of C4th Dental Centre is available to help.

Dr Huang can create natural-looking dental restorations that look and function very much like your natural teeth.

Dental Crowns and Bridges

We have the solutions to repair teeth and fill the gaps left by tooth loss including dental crowns and dental bridges.

Dental Crowns

When a tooth is damaged or weakened, a dental crown can restore its strength and might save it from needing extraction. Dental crowns, which are also referred to as tooth ‘caps,’ cover the tooth like a snug hat. Dental crowns are made to withstand the force of chewing.

Dr Huang commonly uses dental crowns in the following situations:

  • To strengthen teeth that have been weakened by decay or a large filling, where a filling or a replacement filling is not an option
  • To protect teeth that have become fractured, cracked or worn
  • To improve the aesthetics of a tooth that is misshapen or stained
  • To strengthen a tooth after a root canal leaves it brittle and prone to fracture

The Dental Crown Process

The first step is to prepare the tooth in need of a dental crown. Dr Huang will have to remove some of the tooth structure to make room for a dental crown. After preparing the tooth, he will take a mould of it so the lab can fabricate a customised crown designed to fit perfectly. He will put on a temporary crown while you wait for your permanent dental crown.

When your dental crown is back from the lab, you will return to our dental clinic, and Dr Huang will place it on your tooth and make any needed adjustments. After ensuring you can bite down comfortably, he will cement it into place permanently.

Dental Bridges

A bridge is a good option for replacing one or more missing teeth for patients who do not wish to have a dental implant or denture. Much as it sounds, this restoration ‘bridges’ the gap in your smile where teeth are missing. Many different designs and materials can be used for bridges. Dr Huang will discuss your options with you.

The Dental Bridge Process

Bridges are generally attached to crowns that are placed on the teeth adjacent to the space in your mouth where teeth are missing. These permanent restorations will help you to chew comfortably again, and they are also designed to keep your healthy teeth from moving to fill in the gap.
