Teeth Whitening

For Whiter, Brighter Smiles

Teeth whitening can offer a quick way to enhance the appearance of your smile. We offer both in-surgery and at-home treatments.

Tooth whitening has become one of the most popular ways to improve the smile. This effective, non-invasive treatment can be done here in our Seaforth, Sydney dental surgery or the convenience of your own home.

Teeth can become discoloured for many reasons:

  • Drinking tea, coffee or red wine
  • Eating food with rich colourings, such as berries or curries
  • Smoking or using tobacco products
  • Suffering from a trauma that damages a tooth
  • Taking certain medications

Some teeth are naturally pigmented or stained as they develop, and the natural ageing process can also dull the whiteness of teeth.

Whatever the reason for the discolouration of your teeth, many of our patients opt for professional whitening to brighten their smiles.

How Teeth Whitening Works

There is a seemingly endless number of whitening options available in local shops and at the chemist. Many people, however, opt for professional whitening through the dental clinic because of more consistent results. Under the care of a dental professional, a stronger whitening gel can be used, often in conjunction with lasers.

The outer surface of the tooth has microscopic holes, and the foods we eat and beverages we drink get trapped and cause stains. The peroxide-based whitening gel used by your dentist penetrates these tiny openings, helping to remove the stains that have built up.

Results will vary, depending on the patient. Whitening is not a permanent solution, and patients who wish to keep their smiles white may need to alter lifestyle habits as well as undergo touch-up treatments.

It’s important to note that only natural teeth respond to the tooth whitening process. Restorations, including crowns, bridges, dentures or implants cannot be whitened.

At-Home Teeth Whitening

With our custom-made whitening trays, at-home teeth whitening can take up to two weeks before patients will see any results. Dr Huang will create a customised mould of your teeth in our dental clinic, then send the moulds to a lab where the custom-fitting trays will be fabricated. He will provide you with instructions on how to use the trays along with whitening gel to help lighten your teeth at home.

The process usually takes about two weeks of wearing the trays for a recommended amount of time each day.

In-Surgery Teeth Whitening

Patients who desire quicker results might opt for professional whitening in our Seaforth, NSW dental clinic. After protecting the gums with a rubber coating, the peroxide-based whitening gel is applied to the teeth in conjunction with a special light to speed up the process. The entire treatment takes about two hours, and the results will depend on the shade of your teeth at the start of the procedure.
